Symptoms of Yellow, Black and White Fungus

Yellow Fungus Symptoms:

• Formation and leakage of pus from the wounds
• Poor appetite or no appetite
• Sunken eyes
• Healing of wounds gets hindered & prolonged
• Pneumonia with fungal wall
• Malnutrition
• Hypersensitivity of pneumonitis
• Lethargy
• Organ failure

Black Fungus symptoms:

White Fungus Symptoms:

• Fever
• Dark spots on lungs
• Swelling
• Cough
• Skin lesions
• Pains
• Reduced oxygen level
• Infections
• Persistent headaches
• Diarrhea
• White patches in the oral cavity

Post Covid-19 infection, one should be vigilant about the symptoms of Black, White & Yellow Fungus. Medical advice is mandatory if a person finds any of these symptoms.

Causes of Black, White & Yellow Fungus:

• Excessive usage of steroids as part of the Coronavirus treatment is one of the causes of the development of fungus in patients. 
• The shortage of oxygen tanks and cylinders made many families pull in oxygen tanks wherever they are available. Experts expressed their doubt that some oxygen delivery systems might be colonized with fungus, due to which there is a spread of the virus.

Treatment for Black Fungus: 

• Visit an ENT specialist and get an MRI brain done.
• Isavuconazole and Amphotericin are common drugs to treat Black Fungus patients.
• Depending on the spread of the infection, the doctor can even perform surgery.

Treatment for White Fungus: 

• Can be treated with commonly available anti-fungal medicines

Treatment for Yellow Fungus: 

• Amphotericin B injection

Note: During the treatment, there should be judicious use of steroids antibiotics, and other antifungal drugs.

Who are at risk?

• People with an immune-compromised state/ lowered immunity due to HIV, cancer, transplant surgery, diabetes
• Prolonged ICU stay
• Long use of steroids 
• Unsanitary environments containing the molds
• Prolonged oxygen use
• Long-term ventilation reduces immunity

Precautions:

• Maintain good hygiene-Keep your home, room, and surroundings clean and free from dust & dampness.
• Remove stale food and fecal matter immediately to check fungal and bacterial growth
• Check the humidity level in the room and home as excessive humidity promotes the growth of bacteria
• Maintain your oral hygiene with mouthwash
• Steroids usage should be limited
• Avoid gardening as soil and plants have large amounts of fungi
• Maintain nasal hygiene
• Stay indoors and do regular exercises.
• Avoid visiting fields, grounds, or construction areas
• Maintain clean airflow inside the room and home
• Use sterile water for humidification while managing oxygen
• Maintain a healthy immune system
• Avoid unnecessary or excessive use of antibiotics.
