ANGAN (Augmenting Nature by Green Affordable New-habitat)

On September 9, 2019, Delhi hosted the commencement of the ANGAN (Augmenting Nature by Green Affordable New-habitat) International conference, spanning three days. This conference was convened with a primary focus on enhancing Energy Efficiency within the Building Sector. Over the course of these three days, participants had a valuable opportunity to engage in discussions regarding the intricate interplay between organizations, feedback mechanisms, and systemic sustainability, all aimed at achieving greater resource efficiency.

The organization of this event was made possible through a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a statutory body operating under the Ministry of Power, within the Government of India, and Deutsche GesellschaftfürInternationaleZusammenarbeit (GIZ), as part of the Indo-German Technical Cooperation. Their shared mission revolves around promoting Energy Efficiency in the realm of building construction.

Aim: To promote Buildings Energy Efficiency

The core objectives of this conference included:

• Bringing together policymakers from 16 different countries to participate in meaningful dialogues.
• Exploring various alternative options and technologies pertinent to the design and construction of energy-efficient Commercial and Residential Buildings. Discussions also delved into effective policy and program implementation.

• Highlighting the potential benefits of investing approximately Rs. 2000 billion in Building Energy Efficiency initiatives, which could result in cumulative electricity savings of 388 Billion units over the next decade, with an impressive payback period of approximately 2 years.
• Addressing the challenges encountered by stakeholders in the high-energy consumption building sector, which has now become a crucial component of India’s integrated energy policy.
• Raising awareness and disseminating knowledge about the latest technologies, financial support mechanisms, suppliers, and the procurement of energy-efficient equipment.
