- The World Bank has released its latest Doing Business Report (DBR) 2020.
- India ranks 63rd among 190 countries and had moved 14 places from the previous year (77th rank in 2018).
- Based on the Distance to Frontier (DTF) the DBR ranks the countries, DTF is a score that shows the gap of an economy to the global best practice. This year, India’s DTF score had improved to 71.0 from 67.23 in the previous year.
- The report assesses improvement in ease of doing business environment in the states of Delhi and Mumbai.
- In the last five years, India’s ranking has improved from 79 places i.e. to 63 in 2019 and from 142 in 2014.
- Significant improvements have been registered in ‘Dealing with Construction Permits’, ‘Resolving Insolvency’, ‘Registering Property’, ‘Paying Taxes’ indicators, and ‘Trading across Boards’.
- The recovery rate under resolving insolvency has significantly improved from 26.5% to 71.6%.
- The time taken for resolving insolvency has also come down significantly from 4.3 years to 1.6 years.
- India continues to maintain its 1st position among South Asian countries. It was sixth in 2014.
