Chandrayaan 2: ISRO has located Chandrayaan -2 Lander Vikram

ISRO has been trying to establish contact with Chandrayaan-2 Lander (Vikram). The Lander was actually designed to execute a soft landing on the lunar surface in a high plain between two craters, Manzinus C and Simpelius N, at a latitude of about 70° south. ISRO has been sending various directions consistently, hoping to hear once again from the Lander.

Vikram is named after Dr. Vikram A Sarabhai, who is the father of the Indian Space Programme. Vikram has been using the 32-meter antenna installed in Byalalu, its deep space network center near Bangalore.

Vikram has the capacity to communicate with the IDSN at Byalalu, and also with the orbiter and rover. The mission life of the Orbiter is 1 year and it was supposed to be placed in a 100×100 km lunar polar orbit. ISRO is making all possible efforts to establish a communication link with Vikram.

Important points:

  • it is an indigenously developed rover
  • it can travel up to 500m
  • the rover of Chandrayaan 2 is a six-wheeled robotic vehicle and it is named Pragyan
  • the algorithm was wholly developed by Indian scientists
